Hey, y'all, I'm Jan.
My email for requests is [email protected]
Today, I'm making Sloppy Joes!
This recipe is for 1 lb. (454g) Ground beef, or ground chuck. I'm using ground chuck. If you're feeding a bunch, just double the beef and the ingredients.
Ingredients:
1 Tbs (15mL) butter
1 Tbs (15mL) olive oil (if you don't have any, the butter by itself is fine)
1/4 cup (45g?) finely diced green bell pepper
1/2 of a large yellow onion, minced (100g)
3 Cloves of garlic, minced (1tbs jar minced garlic or 8g)
1 Tbs (15mL) Tomato Paste
2/3 Cup (156g) ketchup
1/3 Cup (80mL) Water
1 Tbs (12.5g) Brown Sugar. (If you're worried about this being sweet, you can add just 1-2 teaspoons (4-8g) *If you have no brown sugar, just add a tsp (4g) of granular sugar.
1 Tsp (5g) Yellow mustard
3/4 Teaspoon (1.5g) Chili Powder
1/2 Teaspoon (2.5mL) Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 Teaspoon (1.5g) Salt
1/2 Teaspoon (1.5g) Black Pepper
*Pinch of Red Pepper flakes (optional)
In a large frying pan, add olive oil and butter.
Add your ground chuck in and cook on medium high until browned. Takes 7-10 minutes. Mince your beef up well, or leave some chunks. Your choice.
About 5 minutes in, add your bell pepper and onion.
Once ground chuck is browned and onions/bell pepper are softened
Add your garlic and stir for 30 seconds.
Add your tomato paste in, and stir it all up.
Then add your ketchup, water, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, pepper, (*red pepper flakes), and stir it well.
Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the water has evaporated, or until the mixture has the thickness you desire.
Brown yourself (or don't) some buns, and add as much as you like to your bun. (Generally 1/4 to 1/2 cup of beef per Sloppy Joe. Depends on bun size.)
This is a hand held meal. But, if you make your Sloppy Joe too full to pick up like I did, just grab a fork.
Enjoy, y'all!
