Welcome to this 30-minute mindful somatic yoga flow – a grounding, soothing practice designed to calm the nervous system, restore balance, and reconnect you with the quiet awareness of your true Self.
This class begins with around five minutes of seated mindful meditation, guiding you gently into presence. You’ll be invited to notice your body, breath, emotions, and state of mind – without judgement, simply with awareness. From this stillness, we gradually move into gentle, intuitive movements of the spine, before inviting free, flowing movements with the arms, shoulders, and sides of the body. These movements are not about “doing them right” but about exploring what feels nourishing in your own body.
After warming and awakening the body, we transition into familiar yoga postures woven with somatic awareness. You’ll explore cat movements with intuitive flow, soft low and high lunges to release the hips, a wide-legged forward fold for grounding and inner spaciousness, and a gentle yogi squat for stability and strength. The practice then eases back down to the floor, where you’ll enjoy supine stretches before finishing with a restful Savasana.
Throughout the practice, you’ll be guided with mindful prompts to return again and again to awareness: noticing sensations, observing the breath, and feeling the subtle currents of energy and emotion moving through you. The emphasis is always on presence rather than performance.
🌿 Why Mindful Somatic Yoga?
In daily life, our nervous systems are often pulled into stress responses. The sympathetic nervous system (our “fight, flight, or freeze” mode) can become chronically overactive, leaving us feeling anxious, fatigued, or disconnected from ourselves. This practice offers a chance to shift into the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as “rest and digest.” Here the body can relax, the mind can settle, and the heart can open.
Somatic yoga invites us to move not mechanically, but with deep listening and awareness. Rather than forcing the body into shapes, we explore movement from the inside out. This approach helps to regulate the nervous system, release stored tension, and create a sense of inner safety and wholeness.
When you practice in this way, yoga becomes less about stretching muscles and more about reconnecting with the essence of who you are – a quiet awareness that is steady, peaceful, and untouched by stress.
