2 Ways To Track Progress in PT

Sometimes we can get bogged down by FOCUSING on pain pain pain. Sometimes, we have to zoom away from pain. Especially if they have been dealing with pain for a long time. Such as someone with persistent low back pain that tells you "oh… I've had back pain for the past 20 years."
So what do we do? The patient is always hyper focused on their pain. And it does not seem to get any better even after weeks and weeks of PT.
Sometimes we have to shift the focus away from pain, and focus on function.
Here are two ways of measuring progress that I think can be helpful:
You are able to do more with the same amount of pain
Episodes of pain are shorter, less intense, or less frequent
