You may think of stretching as something performed only by runners or gymnasts. But we all need to stretch in order to protect our mobility and independence. A lot of people don't understand that stretching has to happen on a regular basis. Ideally, it should be daily. And if you are exercising regularly, it is even more important to do so.
Stretching keeps the muscles flexible and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.
This series is designed to encourage you to take the time to stretch after (and ideally also before) exercise, to keep the muscles and the body as healthy as possible.
This class is focussed on the quads. If this group of muscles end up being tight or weak this can have an impact on the hips and knees, so keeping them long and strong will help protect those joints.
