This is a 40 minute lunar flow - gentle and meditative. A vinyasa practice designed to embody the soothing & calming energy of the moon. In Hatha Yoga, our practice aims to balance the heating and stimulating energies we invoke with our sun salutations and flow with the cooling, peaceful and reflective energies of the moon. This practice is ideal on the days of the full and new moon as well as anytime when you may feel fatigued, overwhelmed or overstimulated. A practice to replenish your energy in a way that is rejuvenating but not heating. An evening practice. A practice with less detailed alignment cues.
Class opens with a seated breathing pranayama called Chandra Bhedana or moon piercing breath. We then flow slow through my version of moon salutations circling around the mat. Expect a fluid mandala flow, a slower pace, and an abundance of forward folds. (There are no chatarungas - push ups and Downward Dog sequenced in just to transition)
Postures includes: Lateral side bends, Temple, Triangle, Pyramid, seated twist - ardha matsyendrasana, Head to knee pose - Janu Sirsasana, spread leg forward fold - Prasarita Paddottanasana, Lizard, Gate, Side lunge - Skandasana, Butterfly and Pascimottanasana.
