LOCAL FAVORITE in Portugal🇵🇹 Espetadas de Lulas com Gambas🧡

Hello, Amigas and Amigos, in Portugal, once more🫡

Today I visited Restaurant A Toca in the beautiful city of Leiria, and tried their house specialty – Espetadas de Lulas com Camarão (grilled squid and shrimp skewers). What a meal!🇵🇹🧡

This was actually a recommendation from one of you in the comments – I believe it was Paulo, so thank you! I wouldn’t have found this place otherwise👍

About the Restaurant:
A Toca is a cozy and casual spot right in the heart of Leiria. It’s been around since the 1950s, starting off as a small tavern and growing into one of the most recognized local restaurants in the city. The vibe is relaxed and authentic – nothing fancy, just good food and a warm atmosphere. It’s clearly a favorite among locals, and it gets pretty packed, especially during meal times. If you’re planning a visit, try to go early or book a table in advance, especially on weekends👌

The Dish – Espetadas de Lulas com Camarão:
This dish really captures the flavors of the Portuguese coast. It’s simple but packed with taste. Origins goes back to Madeira, if I'm not wrong.

It’s made with:
Lulas – squid
Camarão – shrimp

Marinated in olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, paprika, and fresh herbs such as parsley or cilantro, and grilled to perfection, with a slight char to bring out the smoky flavor.

It's usually served with crispy homemade fries and a fresh salad on the side. Super satisfying, and a great balance between the grilled seafood and the freshness of the sides💯

For dessert, I ate another Portuguese treasure, mango mousse. Delicious! One more favorite unlocked 😁

Honestly, filming here was a bit of a challenge – I was alone and the place was full, so I had to get a little creative. But it was worth it. The food, the energy, and the whole experience felt real and memorable. If you're ever in Leiria, A Toca is definitely worth checking out.
