Karioitahi Beach is a black sand beach located in Franklin District, near Auckland on the west coast of New Zealand.
It's a huge stretch of beach and you are allowed to drive your vehicle there too, you just need to apply for a permit first. You also need to take great care as there are many wrecks reminding you that the tide will take your car if you get stuck.
Other popular activities is horse riding and paragliding, the southern end of the beach and cliff, known as Maioro, is commonly used by local paragliding schools to train beginner pilots.
As many other West coast beaches, this one has a raw beauty, strong wind and rugged cliffs with a few small waterfalls.
