Precision Approaches, Non-Precision Approach And Approach With Vertical Guidance (APV)

This video is about the Precision Approaches (PA), Non-Precision Approaches (NPA), and Approach with Vertical Guidance (APV), we are going to analyze the differences between these two types of approaches, and also we will talk about the benefits of flying a PA over a NPA.

The Instrument Approaches, in general, are procedures that allow you, when flying IFR, to leave your initial approach fix and land, so is really the last portion of your descend.

There are two main types of Instruments Approaches:
-Precision Approaches,
-Non-Precision Approaches,
-Approach With Vertical Guidance.

The PA utilizes a certified navigation system that provides course and glide path information to you. When flying a PA you will know at every moment if you are above, below, left, or right to your ideal final approach path.

The NPA provides you with course guidance only, you need to take care of your vertical path when flying a Non-Precision Approach.

The main benefit of flying a Precision Approach over a Non-Precision Approach is that when flying a PA your situational awareness is increased a lot since you will know constantly your position compared to the final path.

The APV are procedures that give you course and glide path information however since these procedures don't use the certified systems used on the Precision Approaches they are categorized as Non-Precision Approaches.
