Two Streets, Same Traffic Calming Measures, Does it Work?

Have you ever wondered if traffic calming measure work? In this video, I explore the impact of traffic calming in the City of Groningen by comparing two streets in the small town of Haren: the Stationsweg and the Vondellaan. Both streets have a 30 kph (20 mph) speed limit and similar calming features, but their effectiveness in creating safer environments for cyclists and pedestrians varies quite a lot.
I look at some of the design elements, such as raised intersections and brick ‘gutters’, and discuss how they influence the safety and comfort of cyclists, especially in busy areas. Whether you're a cycling enthusiast or involved in urban planning, this video provides some interesting insights into how traffic calming can enhance or hinder active travel.
