Roll up Pilates Exercise. How to do a proper roll up and modifications.

Sign up for weekly inspiration from us: https://staystrongonline.com/ The Roll up is a Foundation Exercise used in many Pilates and Fitness Classes. The exercise strengthens all the core muscles while moving the spine at every segment.
Aileen teaches you the roll up as well as instructing you in modifications is you are a beginner or recovering from Breast Cancer treatment or surgery and unable to fully elevate your shoulders.

Avoid using momentum or forceful movements as you roll up, but rather use the breath to assist the abdominal muscles. The goal of this exercise is to strengthen the core and abdominals as well as increase your spinal mobility.


Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor Aileen shows three ways of doing the roll up so you can choose what is best for whatever your level.


✔️What you Need
A Mat or your Bed
For modification 2 you will need:
Theraband or Flex-band or Resistance band. Failing that a pair of tights will do as they have elastic stretch.
If you have rounded shoulders you may need a pillow or towel under your head to make sure your head and neck are supported.

💡This is a foundation video and it is meant to help you breakdown an exercise to help you perform it safely and effectively. It is also helpful to revisit foundation exercises because sometimes we need reminders to ensure we are moving safely. Even those of us who teach need to go back to the basics to ensure we continue to move safely.
