Are you thinking of where your loved one will live when you are no longer here? Are you planning on leaving your family home to your loved one’s special needs trust? Have you carefully considered being able to fund for maintenance, upkeep, and most importantly, property taxes, when you’re gone? Who will manage everything? Does this seem like an insurmountable financial burden?
Please join Kris McCann, Executive Director of Bay Area Housing Corp (BAHC) to hear about the Legacy Homes Program.
BAHC has developed a new program called the Legacy Homes Program which is a housing model designed to plan for and provide long-term, stable, affordable housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Family members can transfer ownership of a home to a non-profit, ensuring lifelong management and maintenance, as a way to keep your loved one in your home after you’re gone, and potentially provide a much needed resource to your disability community by creating more housing opportunities.
Kris will discuss:
– What is a legacy home? What agencies support legacy homes throughout California?
– Does it make sense for your family to investigate a legacy home as a long-term option for your loved one once you’re gone?
– What are the benefits – and drawbacks – of legacy homes?
– Are there any alternatives to legacy homes that we might also consider?
– Options to leave legacy gifts to non profits of your choosing
Come learn about the pros and cons of legacy homes and the different options available to discover if this is a viable option to provide secure housing for your loved one after you’re gone.
Bay Area Housing Corp (BAHC) acquires, adapts, and manages quality homes specifically modified for people with I/DD. It is a specialty housing developer with homes in the greater San Francisco Bay Area that partners with San Andreas Regional Center (SARC), Golden Gate Regional Center (GGRC), and Regional Center of the East Bay.
This is a Connections California event, a project of Parents Helping Parents – Silicon Valley. Connections California is sponsored in part by the San Andreas Regional Center and the California Department of Developmental Services.
