Hello dear students welcome to my You Tube channel @Ziatutorials. In this video you will learn the structure of Myosin and Actin filaments of class 12 MDCAT Biology.
Myosin and actin filaments are the main components of muscle tissue and play crucial roles in muscle contraction and movement.
Actin Filaments:
Also known as microfilaments
Composed of globular actin (G-actin) monomers polymerized into a helical structure
Have a diameter of approximately 7-9 nanometers (nm)
Made up of two strands of actin monomers twisted together
Have a positive charge and are polar, with a barbed (+) end and a pointed (-) end
Myosin Filaments:
Also known as thick filaments
Composed of myosin II heavy chains and light chains
Have a diameter of approximately 15-20 nm
Consist of a tail region and a head region
The head region has ATPase activity and binds to actin filaments
The tail region is responsible for the assembly of myosin filaments
