Med Ball Split Stance Overhead Slam to Lateral Hop Decel Toss
A dynamic med ball drill that links an overhead rotational slam with a lateral hop and throw pattern. This movement emphasizes intent, sequencing, and the ability to absorb and redirect force rather than pure load.
Why this matters for golfers over 40
This drill helps train rotational intent while reinforcing the body’s ability to brake and redirect force through the lower body. It’s useful for maintaining athleticism, coordination, and deceleration capacity without relying on heavy loading or high volumes.
Coaching cues
• Set up in a split stance with the lead leg opposite the direction you plan to travel.
• Stack ribs over pelvis. Exhale gently to align the spine without losing height.
• Raise the ball overhead without drifting into extension. Keep the movement compact.
• Slam the ball down with maximum intent. When using a med ball, effort should always be high unless stated otherwise.
• Load the inside leg and hop laterally with intent, allowing the body to naturally decelerate and redirect force as if preparing to throw.
