With hip impingement syndrome (the sensation of feeling something pinching in the front of the hip with flexion) and/or with labral tears, moving the femur back in the hip socket can help to decrease pain. This allows for improved joint positioning, and decreased chance of tissue getting pinched in the front of the joint. These maneuvers are meant to be gentle and relieve pain. If it feels painful, it may not be the right answer for you and your hip pain.
